Bringing out the dead (1999)

Drama / Adaptation | Hulu, Amazon Prime Video

Nicholas Cage star in this Thriller about a burnt out EMT who start just seeing shit. He falls in love with Kissing Kate Burlow and don’t know how to act once he see she’s a drug addict. He goes all over NYC seeing dead bodies but the irony of all is he’s dead inside. Until he meets Patricia Arquette character he doesn’t seems to really care about anything. Definitely recommend if you have some time to analyze what EMTs go through and the pressure and stress they go through daily. Let me know what you think of Nicholas Cage acting cause I think it was very top notch in this one.

My Opinion: Interesting to see Nicholas Cage in the beginning of his career. Recommend only if you want a good story with a little shaky writing. 3.5/5

johnny mnemonic (1995)

Sci-Fi / Action | Netflix

In Johnny Mnemonic, Keanu is basically a human hard drive. He was basically a 5 GB sd card and was carrying 10gb of data, mind you this is all on his brain. He starts to lose his own childhood memories due to the process and with only few hours to transfer the data before it corrupts his brain he goes through the ringer to make it happen. With the help of Ice-T and a dolphin he makes it happen while this is all happening in a post apocalyptic 2021 NYC.

My Opinion: Definitely something you can throw on for your Netflix &Chill session. Also can follow along with the story at anytime. It’s a telling story about what the 90s thought the future was gonna be. 3.5/5

eagle eye (2008)

Action / Thriller | Netflix

If you love Shia LaBeouf like I do then this one for you (if not, take up with god). It has everything action, Shia screaming and him with a beautiful lead (Michelle Monaghan) who helps him through the entire plot and also smarter than him. This movie is about Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) trying to navigate with finding out his mysterious twin was killed, while inherit a large sum of money only to go on the run with a random woman due to both of them getting a mysterious calls telling them how to escape.

My Opinion: If you wanna see Shia scream, run and be apart of some action stop what you doing and watch this one. I really loved the story in this one. 3/5

Death at a funeral (2010)

Comedy | Netflix, Hulu

A remake of the UK classic, brings together a star studded cast that sees the kids preparing for their father’s funeral. From Peter Dinklage being their father’s gay lover to the mirage bringing the wrong body. All of the side characters pop and let the main characters shine. Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence are 2 of the highlights while James Marsden and Peter Dinklage steal the show with the wild comedy the ensues.

My Opinion: If you want a comedy to relate to and watch I definitely recommend this one. You may need a little blunt or drink to relax and have a few laughs. 4/5

The other guys (2010)

Comedy / Action | Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were a duo I thought I didn’t need until I watched The Other Guys. Two down on your luck cops try to become 2 of NY’s best detectives but comedy ensues. From the famous lines of “Gator’s Bitches better be wearing Jimmies” ,“DESK POP” or “Im a peacock you gotta let me fly” this movie and the characters are hilarity at its finest.

My Opinion: One of my favorite movies by far. No matter how many times I watch it never gets old. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg made a classic together. 5/5

cut throat city (2020)

Crime / Action | Netflix

When the hungry gets hungry in Cut Throat City. After Hurricane Katrina 4 friends try to find a way to eat and live comfortably in a time where nothing seems to go right. The plot twist ending kinda gets you but it is a great story to get captivated in.

My Opinion: Every character in this one makes sense. RZA stories also are captivating and make you root for even the villains. 3.5/5

17 & life: jailbait (2014)

Thriller | Tubi, Pluto TV, VUDU

You start to feel bad for her the way her fellow inmates abuse, sexually assault and mistreat her. As the viewer you see an innocent girl choose to stay in the light or contemplate the dark.

My Opinion: My first thought watching this movie was “no way she ain’t stab nobody yet” and then she starts becoming the villain in her origin story. 3/5

the book of eli (2010)

Action / Adventure | Netflix, HBO Max

Denzel coming in with another performance for the ages. When I tell you guys nobody could stop his mission of heading west I mean Nobody. From looters to collectors he killed them all and stood tall. The twist at the end though gives the whole movie its purpose. The ending makes you want to rewatch all of Denzel’s little moments just to see how his character really achieved what he achieved.

My Opinion: Once again one of my favorites. I can rewatch this until I’m blue in the face and won’t get tired. Denzel is really a master at the action thing. Definitely recommend to watch at anytime. 5/5

In a world where families can only have one child due to overpopulation, septuplets are born and have to navigate through government executions while all being the same person. When one of the sisters disappears it’s up to the rest of the septuplets to find out what happen to their sister. The plot twist is gonna give you the meanest attitude cause the non loyalty shown is outstanding.

My Opinion: I loved the movie to the story of the septuplets, to plot of them losing their sister. The only thing I still can’t get pass is the plot twist ending. It still makes me furious. 4.5/5

The green inferno (2014)

Now this one isn’t for the faint of heart. A group of activist students plan a trip to Peru to stop a chemical company from tearing down an Amazon rainforest. When their plane crashes in that very said rainforest they are captured by a native tribe who turns out to not be so friendly.

My Opinion: I say if you gonna watch this please watch with viewer discretion because you will see some things. I also thing people should mind their business sometimes but what do I know. 5/5

The net (1995)

Thriller / Action | Netflix

Sandra Bullock in the 90s was really ahead of her time. This movie also predicted about 90% of todays internet scams. Sandra Bullock works as an IT tech and gets involved with a mysterious disk that gets the attention of a stranger who steals her identity and erase her from existence. She goes through hell and back in this thriller Just to prove she is who she is.

My Opinion: It’s kinda crazy how a lot of 90s movie predicted the future right for the most part. No way Sandra had to go through all that to prove they stole her identity, thank the lord there are so much security for that even though people steal identities. 2.5/5

john henry (2020)

Thriller / Drama | Netflix, Tubi

John Henry (Terry Crews) a criminal whose just trying to stay clean in life but its just not the hand he’s dealt. Ludacris is great as a villain, we need to see more of him in a dark tone. Henry (Crews) goes to extreme lengths to help a young woman in need. He even goes against his own code to make sure her safety is appointed.

My Opinion: I loved this one because it was so unexpected. Seeing Terry Crews as a vulnerable character while seeing people in fear of Ludacris was an interesting take. I think this is a movie to watch over and over again. Definitely a cult classic. 4.5/5

the harder they fall (2021)

Western | Netflix

Black excellence everywhere. This is a classic. Jonathan Majors as Nat Love or Idris Elba’s portrayal of Rufus Buck was just exceptional. The standout performances of Regina King and Danielle Deadwyler was something to die for (no pun intended). The story of Rufus Buck’s gang vs Nat Love’s gang in the western era shows how excellence this cast is. From the story to the dialog to the reveal to the easter eggs to ending a lot is throw at you.

My Opinion: STOP WHAT YOU DOING AND WATCH IT NOW. IF YOU WATCHED IT ALREADY, WATCH IT AGAIN. Best western you’ll ever watch. 10/5

zoolander (2001)

Comedy | Netflix

Ben Stiller in all his glory. As model Derek Zoolander you see Stiller go through wacky adventures as a high praised model with his patented look called “Blue Steel”. Of course hilarity ensues when Derek loses and he doesn’t know how to handle the loss.

My Opinion: Zoolander is a classic, Owen Wilson complements Ben Stiller so well as rivals. Looking to watch something funny to watch this is it. Early 2000s comedy at its finest. 3/5

Adventure / Action | Amazon Prime Video, Tubi

Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto shows the height of the Mayan kingdom and how they begin to lose their power. Jaguar Paw is captured and has to go through hell and back just to get back to his pregnant wife and son safe. JP is probably the best character development in a story you’ll see. He doesn’t try to do anything spectacular but he manages to pull off a lot of daring escapes.

My Opinion: One of the favorites of the bag. Jaguar Paw is what I really try to live my life by, he cared about his family and nothing was stopping him from getting back to them. 5/5

anchorman: the legend of ron burgundy (2004)

Comedy | Netflix, Paramount+, Amazon Prime Video

Anchorman is probably one of the funniest movies you’ll watch. Everyone’s performance is meme worthy. Will Ferrell is back again this time as a news anchor who thinks his shit doesn’t stink. When new competition arrives he doesn’t know how to handle the pressure.

My Opinion: In my bag with the good movies again. Will Ferrell in the mid 2000s doesn’t disappoint with his greatness. With the co stars that he had in this cast this movie is a certified classic. 5/5

In a world where human, orcs, fairies and elves coexist 2 cops end up on night patrol and their world changes forever. Battling for their species and their own inner demons this one gets gritty and ugly fast.
